Mike announced that we would spend
the morning visiting the Danakil Depression,
an extreme, alien-like landscape that has been drawing in scientists
from all over the world. The region is close to the disputed
Eritrean border and it's seen frequent fighting between
the two countries. We were advised it was necessary
for us to travel with armed guards. Right now, Mike is speaking to
the chief of the village to sort us out a couple of police
and militia to basically look after us
while we're there. I know I'm supposed to sort of,
like, for the purposes of the show
add some drama to that, because it is quite dangerous, but I'm just knackered,
