RITA: We were
treated as, uh, traitors. There were publications all
over the social networks and everywhere blaming us
for selling our country, blaming us for treason. Theywere people saying,
"What should we do with a traitor journalist?" with our names. They said, well, should we
throw them off the bridge of the canal? Should we send
them to Punta Coco, which is equivalent of
Alcatraz for Panama, or should we just
send them to La Joya, which is a maximum
security prison. JOSEPH: This sort of thing
is happening a lot of, a lot of
places in the world, it's absolutely terrifying. Me personally, I've been
physically threatened, I've been
threatened with lawsuits. Um, but I'm really lucky. I, you know, I work
in the United States. It's really bad form to
kill a journalist here. Investigative journalism is hard
enough without having to worry, do all that kind
of moral math, um, physical risk. It's something that war
correspondents are used to doing all the time. In a way, it kind of feels
like we're all war correspondents now

RITA: We were
treated as, uh, traitors.
00:00:03.916 --> 00:00:06.179
There were publications all
over the social networks and
00:00:06.222 --> 00:00:09.356
everywhere blaming us
for selling our country,
00:00:09.399 --> 00:00:11.184
blaming us for treason.
00:00:11.227 --> 00:00:13.055
Theywere people saying,
"What should we do with a
00:00:13.099 --> 00:00:14.491
traitor journalist?"
00:00:14.535 --> 00:00:16.058
with our names.
00:00:16.102 --> 00:00:17.755
They said, well, should we
throw them off the bridge of
00:00:17.799 --> 00:00:18.843
the canal?
00:00:18.887 --> 00:00:20.933
Should we send
them to Punta Coco,
00:00:20.976 --> 00:00:22.847
which is equivalent of
Alcatraz for Panama,
00:00:22.891 --> 00:00:23.892
or should we just
send them to La Joya,

which is a maximum
security prison.

a lot of, a lot of
places in the world,

it's absolutely terrifying.

Me personally, I've been
physically threatened,
00:00:32.064 --> 00:00:34.012
I've been
threatened with lawsuits.
00:00:34.163 --> 00:00:36.209
Um, but I'm really lucky.
00:00:36.252 --> 00:00:38.211
I, you know, I work
in the United States.
00:00:38.254 --> 00:00:40.604
It's really bad form to
kill a journalist here.
00:00:40.648 --> 00:00:43.172
Investigative journalism is hard
enough without having to worry,
00:00:43.216 --> 00:00:45.783
do all that kind
of moral math, um,
00:00:45.827 --> 00:00:47.394
physical risk.
00:00:47.437 --> 00:00:48.438
It's something that war
correspondents are used to doing
00:00:48.482 --> 00:00:49.787
all the time.
00:00:49.831 --> 00:00:50.963
In a way, it kind of feels
like we're all war
00:00:51.002 --> 00:00:52.355
correspondents now.
