Slavoj Zizek: But the choice between the blue and the red pill is not really a choice between illusion and reality. Of course Matrix is a machine for fictions, but these are fictions which already structure our reality: if you take away from our reality the symbolic fictions that regulate it, you lose reality itself. So what is the third pill? Definitely not some kind of transcendental pill which enables a fake fast-food religious experience, but a pill that would enable me to perceive not the reality behind the illusion but the reality in illusion itself. If something gets too traumatic, too violent, gets too, even too filled in with enjoyment, it shatters the coordinates of our reality: we have to fictionalise it

But the choice between the blue and the red pill
00:00:04.008 --> 00:00:08.096
is not really a choice between illusion and reality
00:00:08.096 --> 00:00:12.052
Of course Matrix is a machine for fictions
00:00:12.052 --> 00:00:17.008
but these are fictions which already structure our reality
00:00:17.008 --> 00:00:20.068
If you take away from our reality
00:00:20.068 --> 00:00:23.004
the symbolic fictions that regulate it
00:00:23.004 --> 00:00:25.088
you lose reality itself
00:00:25.088 --> 00:00:28.001
I want a third pill
00:00:28.001 --> 00:00:31.044
So what is the third pill
00:00:31.044 --> 00:00:34.076
Definitely not some kind of transcendental pill
00:00:34.076 --> 00:00:37.088
which enables a fake fast food religious experience
00:00:37.088 --> 00:00:42.076
but a pill that would enable me to perceive
00:00:42.076 --> 00:00:45.024
not the reality behind the illusion
00:00:45.024 --> 00:00:50.001
but the reality in illusion itself
00:00:50.001 --> 00:00:52.008
If something gets too traumatic too violent
00:00:52.008 --> 00:00:57.052
even too too filled in with enjoyment
00:00:57.052 --> 00:01:00.076
it shatters the coordinates of our reality
00:01:00.076 --> 00:01:02.008
We have to fictionalize it
