does not mind being a maverick. He thought that this playing around
with the cookies was getting out of hand. Cookies, as groupies were called
in those days, Glenn thought the time had come to deliver
a little lecture on the subject, so he started saying how he wasn't gonna
stand by and let other members of the group ruin the chance of a lifetime
by creating some scandal through playing around with these girls. The others could not believe that
one pilot, a peer among peers, was standing up
and giving this moral lecture. So, Alan Shepard, who was a very
different man from John Glenn, stood up and in his stern
and sort of icy commander, Naval Academy fashion, says,
"Listen, you're not gonna stand up "and tell me or anybody else
your view of morality."
