The disaster
that was Woodstock ‘99 left a bad taste
in pretty much everyone's mouths. The music festival had warped from a celebration
of peace and love and free milk, to a staging ground for violence
and shameless profiteering. It was pretty much the end for large scale music festivals
in the United States. But there were a few true believers, promoters and entrepreneurs who had faith that they could revive
the original spirit of festivals. They did so,
not by playing into the culture of Y2K, but by looking back
to the ethos of the '60s and returning
to the music festival's roots. They believed that
it wasn't where you built the home, but how you built it

The disaster
that was Woodstock ‘99
00:00:03.753 --> 00:00:06.964
left a bad taste
in pretty much everyone's mouths.
00:00:07.048 --> 00:00:08.549
The music festival had warped
00:00:08.633 --> 00:00:11.928
from a celebration
of peace and love and free milk,
00:00:12.999 --> 00:00:15.848
to a staging ground for violence
and shameless profiteering.
00:00:15.932 --> 00:00:17.266
It was pretty much the end
00:00:17.035 --> 00:00:20.561
for large scale music festivals
in the United States.
00:00:22.999 --> 00:00:24.523
But there were a few true believers,
00:00:24.607 --> 00:00:26.734
promoters and entrepreneurs who had faith
00:00:26.817 --> 00:00:29.737
that they could revive
the original spirit of festivals.
00:00:29.082 --> 00:00:33.616
They did so,
not by playing into the culture of Y2K,
00:00:33.699 --> 00:00:36.327
but by looking back
to the ethos of the '60s
00:00:36.041 --> 00:00:38.579
and returning
to the music festival's roots.
00:00:38.663 --> 00:00:41.499
They believed that
it wasn't where you built the home,
00:00:41.582 --> 00:00:42.875
but how you built it.
