always asks you about, "How do you get started?" And then you'll tell them
to go to an open mic. "And what should I do?" I go, "Tape your shows
and then listen to it." And that's how I kind
of learned what a joke is, where I'm bombing,
where I'm doing okay, how to make a joke tighter
and better. And then they'll go, "And what should
I talk about?" And I'm like,
"Well, wait a minute. "Do you wanna be a comic? I mean, who's forcing you
into this?" - It takes a long time
to develop into who you are or who you wanna be. Um, and stand-up comedy, {\an1}I was definitely guilty of that
at the beginning of my career. You know,
I didn't have a voice. Uh, I didn't know who
Kevin Hart was onstage. I didn't know
that I could be myself. - And your voice has
to captivate people who don't even know you. Like make them fall in love
with you. Make them get a snapshot
of your life. Let them ride down this
journey that you're telling in a humorous way. {\an1}I mean, it's really hard to do
