If you're looking for reasons
why life not only began here on Earth but was able to prosper
for the almost four billion years it took for it to evolve into the complex living world
that we see today, then, it might seem a bit of a stretch
to point to a supermassive black hole at the centre of our galaxy and say,
"That's one of the reasons why." But we're now beginning to suspect that those great outpourings
of energy from Sagittarius A* played a crucial role
in making this region of the galaxy, one in which life can flourish

If you're looking for reasons
why life not only began here on Earth
00:00:05.012 --> 00:00:08.002
but was able to prosper
for the almost four billion years
00:00:08.028 --> 00:00:09.096
it took for it to evolve
00:00:10.999 --> 00:00:12.068
into the complex living world
that we see today,
00:00:12.076 --> 00:00:15.096
then, it might seem a bit of a stretch
to point to a supermassive black hole
00:00:16.999 --> 00:00:19.044
at the centre of our galaxy and say,
"That's one of the reasons why."
00:00:20.999 --> 00:00:21.008
But we're now beginning to suspect
00:00:21.088 --> 00:00:26.012
that those great outpourings
of energy from Sagittarius A*
00:00:26.002 --> 00:00:30.048
played a crucial role
in making this region of the galaxy,
00:00:30.056 --> 00:00:33.998
one in which life can flourish.
