James Nachtwey:
While I was doing this reportage, I discovered a man who had one arm and one leg. He'd been run over by a train seven years ago on a drunken night and somehow managed to survive. He was living with his wife and four children in the gravel between railway tracks. I could see that he was very loving towards his children; that they also loved him in return. That he was trying his best to keep his family together. And spent quite a bit of time documenting the life of this family

his shirt was immaculate
00:00:03.202 --> 00:00:05.762
And amidst all that dust and chaos
00:00:06.105 --> 00:00:08.665
stood this man I'd never seen before
00:00:09.175 --> 00:00:12.508
taking his pictures He was in no hurry like the others
00:00:12.812 --> 00:00:13.938
He was somehow calm
00:00:15.281 --> 00:00:17.476
as suddenly South African photographer
00:00:17.817 --> 00:00:20.081
Ken Oosterbroek was killed next to him
00:00:31.264 --> 00:00:34.563
Normally two sorts of journalists are hit
00:00:35.368 --> 00:00:38.565
the ones on their first assignment
00:00:39.997 --> 00:00:42.235
and the ones who have been at it too long
00:00:42.575 --> 00:00:44.975
and think they're bulletproof
00:00:45.611 --> 00:00:49.513
Jim is in danger of seeing himself as bulletproof
00:00:50.998 --> 00:00:54.112
in danger of pushing his luck once too often
00:00:56.589 --> 00:00:58.853
As someone who is quite reserved
00:01:00.693 --> 00:01:01.421
he needs that kick that adventure
00:01:03.093 --> 00:01:06.797
that flow of adrenalin and the fear of dying
