[Ralph] If you ask him today, he'll tell you he doesn't remember that letter and he didn't remember signing it. If you look at the letter, the name right underneath Michael Duggan is that of his chief assistant, Samuel Gardner. Rick's two defense attorneys at the time he was convicted was Samuel Gardner and Ed Bell, who were law partners. [Wershe] He wanted to keep me in prison as long as he could. I mean here's a guy that was my lawyer- and was the number two prosecutor- told me I had nothing to worry about. And then this letter that was- so outlandish and crazy gets sent to the parole board. I think it proves that they threw the case from the beginning- and that their ultimate goal was to keep me in prison. [Ralph] If you ask him today,
00:00:03.124 --> 00:00:04.958
he'll tell you he doesn't
00:00:03.124 --> 00:00:04.958
remember that letter
00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:06.042
and he didn't remember
00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:06.042
signing it.
00:00:06.075 --> 00:00:08.249
If you look at the letter,
00:00:08.291 --> 00:00:10.416
the name right
00:00:08.291 --> 00:00:10.416
underneath Michael Duggan
00:00:10.458 --> 00:00:13.124
is that of his chief assistant,
00:00:13.166 --> 00:00:15.042
Samuel Gardner.
00:00:15.083 --> 00:00:19.291
Rick's two defense attorneys
00:00:15.083 --> 00:00:19.291
at the time he was convicted
00:00:19.333 --> 00:00:23.291
was Samuel Gardner and Ed Bell,
00:00:23.333 --> 00:00:24.917
who were law partners.
00:00:25.005 --> 00:00:29.000
[Wershe]
00:00:25.005 --> 00:00:29.000
He wanted to keep me in prison
00:00:25.005 --> 00:00:29.000
as long as he could.
00:00:29.002 --> 00:00:31.249
I mean here's a guy that was my
00:00:29.002 --> 00:00:31.249
lawyer-
00:00:31.291 --> 00:00:33.458
and was the number two
00:00:31.291 --> 00:00:33.458
prosecutor-
00:00:33.005 --> 00:00:35.583
told me I had nothing to worry
00:00:33.005 --> 00:00:35.583
about.
00:00:35.625 --> 00:00:37.625
And then this letter that was-
00:00:37.666 --> 00:00:40.541
so outlandish and crazy gets
00:00:37.666 --> 00:00:40.541
sent to the parole board.
00:00:40.583 --> 00:00:43.958
I think it proves that they
00:00:40.583 --> 00:00:43.958
threw the case from the
00:00:40.583 --> 00:00:43.958
beginning-
00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:47.291
and that their ultimate goal was
00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:47.291
to keep me in prison.
00:00:47.333 --> 00:00:49.166
[Kevin] So I went over
00:00:47.333 --> 00:00:49.166
to the hearing,
00:00:49.208 --> 00:00:51.208
and, in, in the first day
00:00:49.208 --> 00:00:51.208
of the hearing,
00:00:51.249 --> 00:00:53.249
I heard federal agents say
00:00:53.291 --> 00:00:56.333
that Rick Wershe
00:00:53.291 --> 00:00:56.333
was very helpful.
