as they entered Auschwitz and liberated around
7,000 remaining prisoners. Most were Jews. All were
extremely sick and weak. Many were near death. These men, women and children
had been left behind after the SS forced the rest
of the inmates on death
marches. At least 1.3 million people
were deported to Auschwitz between 1940 and 1945. And of these,
at least 1.1 million were murdered. Reports of the death camps
and gas chambers, some from escapees, had reached the Big Three
earlier in the war. All of The Big Three
knew about Auschwitz
