was the course of the war, and indeed, the fate of Japan. The talks would result
in the Cairo Declaration, outlining a vision
of a post‐war Pacific. Japan would lose
all the territory it had seized since 1914. Land taken from China
was to be returned, and Korea would be independent. But the talks in Cairo
went beyond the Pacific, and splits between Churchill
and Roosevelt soon surfaced. Churchill has made
a lot of assumptions about Roosevelt's friendship and his commitment to Britain
